Every bit as complex as PRINZGAU/podgorschek's pictorial work, and inextricably bound up with it, is their cinematic oeuvre. Their very first film - the animation "die Pedianten", made in 1989 for an exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris - "landed" in the competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990. Since that time PRINZGAU/podgorschek have produced both artistic short films as well as equally high-caliber documentaries and reports on their work and projects. Their multifaceted points of departure and areas of interest are just as evident in their films and videos as in their art - their experimental approach, interest in the materiality and texture of the respective medium, and especially their penchant for taking up and rededicating found material. The artists' cooperative working method, bringing in colleagues from the most diverse fields, is particularly well suited to the medium of film. PRINZGAU/podgorschek zero in on their subjects and find the inherent irony in them, manifesting a fascination with social and cultural phenomena and multiple layers of meaning. They make proposals, designs for the world around us. The way our perception can be transformed by taking a new perspective is a recurrent motif in both the content and execution of their work.

The significance of travel, in particular to China, India, and Chicago, comes out clearly in their videos and becomes a formative element tying their films together, such as in the recent portrait "Paarläufer". During their stay as artists-in-residence at the O.K, they made five films. Working their way through the film and video archive prompted them to finally realize their long-planned portrait. In connection with the eponymous installation "Fadenbrand," they made the short film "globe" and completed their documentaries "Made in Dignity" and "Entdeckung der Korridore." Also during the course of their residency at O.K, the artists completed work on their documentary video "Nicht nur für Chinesen," 2004. In this film, based on a trip to China, the experience of travel and various perspectives taken on this foreign culture are explored playfully on several levels. As reactions to the material brought back from the trip, three different editors bring their own views to bear on the production process of the final film.

Ebenso vielschichtig wie das bildnerische Werk von PRINZGAU/podgorschek ist auch das damit untrennbar verbundene filmische Werk. Schon der erste Film - der Trickfilm "die Pedianten" entstand 1989 zu einer Ausstellung im Grand Palais in Paris und "landete" bei 1990 im Wettbewerb zu den Filmfestspielen in Cannes. Seitdem auch Filmemacher, produzierten PRINZGAU/podgorschek neben künstlerischen Kurzfilmen gleichwertig Dokumentationen, dokumentierte Arbeiten und Projekte. Ihre vielseitigen Ansätze und Interessensgebiete werden auch in ihren Filmen und Videos deutlich - ihr experimenteller Ansatz, ihr Interesse an der Materialität und Textur des jeweiligen Mediums, und v.a. das Aufnehmen und die Umwidmung von vorgefundenem Material. Ihre kooperative Arbeitsweise, die Einbindung von KollegInnen aus den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen als durchgängige Haltung kommt dem Medium Film sehr entgegen. Die Faszination an sozialen und kulturellen Phänomenen, Mehrdeutigkeiten zeichnen den genauen, ironischen Blick von PRINZGAU/podgorschek aus. Sie machen Vorschläge, Entwürfe für die uns umgebende Umwelt. Eine veränderte Wahrnehmung durch das Einnehmen einer neuen Perspektive ist ein immer wiederkehrendes inhaltliches und gestalterisches Motiv.

Die Bedeutung der Reisen, insbesondere der nach China, Indien, Chicago, kommt in den Videos klar heraus und wird wie in dem neu entstanden Porträt "Paarläufer" zum verbindenden filmischen Gestaltungselement. Während des Aufenthaltes im O.K entstanden fünf Filme. Die Aufarbeitung des Film und Videoarchives wurde letztendlich auch zum Auslöser das lange geplante Porträt umzusetzen. Im Zusammenhang mit der titelgebenden Installation "Fadenbrand" entstand der Kurz-Film "globe" und wurde die Dokumentationen "Made in Dignity" und "Entdeckung der Korridore" fertig gestellt. Ebenfalls im Zuge ihres residency Aufenthaltes im O.K wird das Dokumentar-Video "Nicht nur für Chinesen", 2004 fertig gestellt. Im Film, der auf einer Reise nach China zurück geht, werden auf mehreren Ebenen in spielerischer Weise die Erfahrung des Reisens und die unterschiedliche Perspektive auf die fremde Kultur beleuchtet. Als Reaktionen auf das mitgebrachte Material bringen drei verschiedene EditorInnen ihre Sicht unmittelbar in den Produktionsprozess des Films ein.
